The data, used to explore video game trends and insights, was sourced from VGChartz, a business intelliegence and research firm specializing in video game industry data. Ever since Nintendo’s creation in 1889 as a card game, they have proven their dominance in the gaming industry. The global popularity of their games and consoles are a visual representation of that dominance.
Which gaming platform has the highest average sales?
The action genre has dominated North America and Europe, amassing over $1.4 billion in sales, while in Japan, role-playing games emerged as the top choice, with sales exceeding $352 million. Sports were close behind in North America and Europe, mirroring the popularity of action games in Japan. The highest selling game in North America and Europe is Wii Sports, bringing in over $83 million in global sales. Pokemon Red/Pokemon Blue led sales in Japan at over $10 million in global sales.
